Face Cards

My sister once joked that everyone should carry business cards with a small photo on the front for being social in bars. Take the card home, and if you still like the looks of the person in the photo, give them a call.

After all, it’s worked for Real Estate agents for years.

Recently, we’re seeing more cards featuring faces. I recently spotted the pop-up face cards for Kansas City-based REACTOR.

Yesternight, I received a cheeky, but poorly designed, card for Rob Kelley. In this case, his face is rendered as a cartoon — a reference to the SIMs, perhaps?

So here’s the question: Why? Do we need the images as a reminder? To create a visual connection and therefore a more emotional relationship? Or is it to add credibility? Is there something subliminal at work or is this trend, as I suspect, an exercise in vanity. With new printing technology comes the almost expected abuses — photography is right up there with shadowy and 3D text.

My opinion, keep your face off your card.
