Geekbrief.tv
So, a while back I redesigned the logo for Geekbrief.tv, a popular technology video podcast. While the logo has gone into use on the site, the podcast, and elsewhere, the overall visual style I had suggested (or rather, the one that goes with the logo) was ignored. So when Cali handed me this card last week, it was a complete surprise to me.

The most striking thing about this card is in fact how glossy it is. I suppose if your company boasts “shiny” in the tagline, it should have some glimmer. The rounded corners do tie in with the logo, but so would some die-cut corners with strong diagonals.

And for the back, why not a photo of Cali?
These don’t suck, exactly, but they are a severe departure from what I had initially envisioned for the Geekbrief brand.

Which would you say works better as a card? Which ties in better with the show.

I like the square one better, but my criteria has a strong bias. Since my main interest in business cards is as raw material for origami, cards with round corners are a big letdown.
For business purposes, I’m not a big fan of picture cards, but they would make for a cool faced business card cube…

Going with the second one by far.
The gloss on the top makes it look like they opted for some sort of 1000 for $10 type deal.
I think keeping it simply “GeefBrief” adds a bit more curiosity to the card, something I would wanna check out a bit more.
With the TV and .tv in the first one, it already makes me shrug and wonder why I should bother watching.
