I’m glad that I wasn’t around for this apparent trend in card design. This mind-bending experience of a card appears to be some kind of metallic ink varnish laid on in a haphazard pattern to resemble that brushed metal finish that some metalworkers like to do. I really don’t know how to describe it. Naturally, [...]

Jordan T. Farkas is, apparently, an Art Director. Don’t tell anyone, but he’s also Batman.

Props to BTR Recovery Specialists for being bold enough to rock a card with not one, not two, but three straplines! Obviously, the cheeky phrase “Now you see it, now you don’t” is a reference to the stealthiness of their repossessing skills, and it’s good to know that they recover anything, as indicated by the [...]

The card for Hello World Communications isn’t great. Lots of info, a clashing colour scheme, and the dented Golden Spiral which seems a bit out of left field. But the real WTF moment comes when we flip the card and see the juxtaposition of the Tensometer. Novelties aside, why would a film and video production [...]

I should write a letter to the folks at Trans American and kindly inform them of the typographic axiom that governs how the only words that should ever be set in the typeface Avant Garde are in fact “Avant Garde.” And, I think Transamerican is one word. Or at least deserves a hyphen.

I’m sorry, but that coat does not serve as an adequate replacement for an M. And what’s with that T? No visual pun at work there. Another point of suck, the whole things is printed with thermography, which as we all know gets nasty and bubbly when printed in large type of fields of fields [...]

Ouch. There’s a lot going on there, including 3 illustrations of vehicles, 6 typefaces (including some nice Christmas Card script), fluorescent green paper, and the coup de grâce, thermography!

Not that this is terribly notable, but I thought it fitting to showcase the old school Tropicana logo and mascot on this vintage card. The odd thing about this card is the terrible spacing of the text. Even in the previous generation, before computers, typesetters and designers knew about balance and whitespace.

My father recent gave me an old rolodex of his packed with business cards from yesteryear. This is the first of many gems that I’ll be posting. In this case, it deserves a double-take and a WTF, in any era. Not so much of a card, but simply a piece of paper rubber-stamped with the [...]

My sister once joked that everyone should carry business cards with a small photo on the front for being social in bars. Take the card home, and if you still like the looks of the person in the photo, give them a call. After all, it’s worked for Real Estate agents for years. Recently, we’re [...]

This card falls into the category of what I call “classic suck.” A clear example of amateur and/or ad-hoc design, this card features three typefaces, including the dreaded Zapf Chancery, thermography, and all printed on some strange sort of semi-transparent vellum. Almost a WTF moment. What’s with that “go” button? And why is the name [...]

This is a disastrous mixture of templated design and Photoshop gymnastics. Yes, this card is actually available for you to order and I can only assume that some people use it. Guru Unleashed is the place to get your awesome cards. Complete with Arial type.

Spotted these online and had to wonder why? Even if the owner is in the business of selling martial arts weapons, these aren’t terribly practical. From the photo, it doesn’t appear that they are made of razor-sharp metal, and I find the blood to be simply corny. Boo. via ag design »

This isn’t a business card, but I think it’s worth mentioning on the site. The Babel Business Card Tree from EX49. While I can enjoy a well-crafted object, this seems to me a long way around just to display your business cards. Would you buy one and display it in your home/office? via SwissMiss »
